I love canning. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a ton of work, but the rewards are so worth it!

When I started planning on going back to my roots, and making food from scratch, learning left behind techniques for having a naturally healthy home, I missed convenience.

With six kids, there are just some days still that convenience is king. I’m tired, I’m not feeling well, I’m feeling lazy (thankfully that’s not very often). Something about having a meal prepared already, or at least partially prepared is such a blessing! So what would my grandmother and my great grandmother have done to make things easier?

I highly doubt when they started canning food it had anything to do with convenience. I imagine mostly just a way of safely storing food for long term. But it could be considered convenient, no?

Sure!! Why not! Prepared homemade sauces can be canned! That half a meal right there!! Bingo!

My favourite is rattitoule! My family has been making and canning this gem for decades. Use it in stews, soups, on pasta, rice. Healthy as can be, just stewed veggies! What a winner!!

I’d love to hear about your favorite gems to can. Or some of your favorite ways to make old school healthy meals more convenient!
